Basic information about visa requirements for travelling to Canada
The information below is intended as a starting point. Travellers should confirm current requirements and guidelines directly with the Canadian government, as conditions may change.
Arriving Halifax
We encourage flying direct to Halifax, Nova Scotia, from major cities in Europe, United States, and Canada. Direct flights to Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) are available from most Canadian cities, from major hub cities in the United States (multiple options), and Frankfurt and London (Heathrow) in Europe. View airlines arriving in Halifax .
Canadian airlines that fly from other Canadian cities to Halifax:
- Air Canada
- WestJet
- Porter (from Toronto Island Airport)
- Lynx
All visitors entering Canada by air, land, and sea are required to carry a valid passport and in certain cases a visa. Transportation via rail is not easily travelled throughout Canada, especially to the eastern coast of the country. Expect 24-48 hours drive by car or by train one way from major cities in eastern North America. No buses are available cross-province. More information about sea travel to Nova Scotia is available.
Visa Application & Letters of Invitation
Find out more information about applying for a visa to travel to Canada .
A Visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) may be required to enter. You can save time at the airport by completing your customs and immigration declaration in advance using the ArriveCAN mobile or web app .
Due to an increase in interest from attendees from countries that require visas, we find that we are unable to issue letters for visa support for all possible attendees. Therefore, we will be restricting letters of support to those who are part of the program or acting in an official capacity at the conference. We are sorry if this causes any inconvenience. If you have any questions, please contact us at programme ( at ) lists.iassistdata.org .
The Canadian government recommends that Visa applications are submitted at least 12 weeks prior to the potential travel. In most cases, conference registration is required before receiving a Letter of Invitation.
