GESIS – Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences is an internationally active research institute, funded by federal and state governments and member of the Leibniz Association.
For the period from January 2026 until December 2028, our Department Data Services for the Social Sciences, Team Data Acquisitions and Access located in Cologne, is looking for a
Research Associate in Trusted Research Environments & Researcher Training (Salary group 13 TV-L, working time 100 %, 39,5 h/week)
The department Data Services for the Social Sciences offers sustainable infrastructures and services for data management, curation, and long-term preservation. Its mission is to foster FAIR data, open science, and reproducible research in the quantitative and computational social sciences. This includes archiving services with different curation levels for individual researchers, projects, and institutions, providing access to archived data, including access to sensitive data, the data registration agency da|ra, and data management trainings.
We also operate the GESIS Secure Data Center, our Trusted Research Environment responsible for providing access to sensitive research data in the social sciences. The Secure Data Center is leading the ASSURED project, an exciting multi-consortium, multi-disciplinary project, which aims to ensure ”safe research by safe people“ through the development of a new Safe Researcher Training program in Germany and beyond.
Your tasks will be:
- Coordination of the work of ASSURED project, liaising across multiple partners and managing internal and external communications
- Design, creation, and continuous improvement of digital learning materials (e.g., video tutorials, exercises, guides, and documentation) in collaboration with content experts
- Monitoring and evaluation of the online training offer to enhance user experience and learning effectiveness
- Contributing to research activities relevant to ASSURED, e.g., conference and journal papers on topics such as data governance, privacy and statistical disclosure, secure data access infrastructures.
- Providing administrative support for the Secure Data Center and its users, including statistical disclosure review
Your profile:
- A completed Master’s degree and a completed or in-progress Ph.D
- Good knowledge of quantitative research methods and data in the social sciences, and statistical programs for handling them (e.g., Python, R, and Stata)
- Experience of working in Trusted Research Environments and/or with sensitive data (e.g., disclosure control, data protection regulations)
- Experience of developing and delivering online or hybrid training materials, and interest in innovative training methods (e.g., interactive exercises, microlearning, or self-paced learning)
- Very good knowledge of English in both verbal and written communication
