Research Data Management Specialist
Job Summary
Purdue University Libraries is looking for an experienced Research Data Management Specialist to join the Purdue University Research Data Repository (PURR) team. As part of a highly collaborative team, the Specialist will build and deliver education and training programs related to research data management, reuse, and preservation to meet the Purdue University research community needs with an emphasis on nationwide open science policy. The Research Data Management Specialist will consult on topics across the research data lifecycle and assist in reviewing research data management plans for grant proposal submissions. Structuring and engaging in outreach, the position will raise awareness about research data management practices and PURR services. Additionally, the Specialist will foster relationships with departments, research centers, and labs, including partnerships within the Libraries.

Purdue University Research Data Repository (PURR) is an initiative of the Purdue University Libraries, Purdue IT, and the Office of Research. It is one of the earliest institutional data repositories dedicated to sharing research data. It provides an online, collaborative working space and a data-sharing platform to support the data management needs of campus researchers and their collaborators. With more than ten years experiences of data curation and data stewardship, the team is an integral campus partner in support and innovation. At the crossroads of the new federal agency data sharing mandate, the position will bring exciting opportunities to work with a team of research data professionals and researchers at an R1 institution exploring new possibilities for research data management and sharing as a major driver towards open science.
What We’re Looking For:
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or closely related discipline
- Some experience with one or more of the following:
- Experience with research data management, sharing, and preservation practices, trends, policies, and issues in higher education
- Experience with research repositories
- Experience providing instruction and outreach services
- Experience supporting researchers in an academic environment
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Skills Needed:
- Demonstrated commitment and support for a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Demonstrated competence with one or more relevant methods, tools, and domains
- Knowledge of open data principles, open science, and practices that assist with data reproducibility
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
