Description
As the Director the incumbent will:
- Serve as the senior level advisor to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services on all activities related to health/science statistics -the health component of the federal statistical system.
- Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the planning, development and implementation of all NCHS statistical science programs and policies and providing managerial oversight, through subordinate supervisors, to all staff assigned to NCHS.
- Develop, plan, coordinate and evaluate the varied programs of NCHS including vital statistics, health surveys, and various research projects related to statistical theory and scientific methodology performed by the Center or by other government or nongovernment agencies under reimbursable or contractual arrangements.
- Provide overall executive and scientific direction to the Center’s data processing activities which include complex research into questions of systems design and data input.
- Exercise leadership to ensure that all programs under his/her direction reflect the principles of work force diversity in their management and operation in such areas as recruitment and staffing, employee development, staff assignments, and communications.
Basic Qualifications for RF-0602: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (external link){.Leaving}; Association of American Medical Colleges (external link){.Leaving}; Liaison Committee on Medical Education (external link){.Leaving}; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association (external link){.Leaving}, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link){.Leaving} at the time the degree was obtained.
*Degree from Foreign Medical School:
- A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link){.Leaving}, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Candidates must show clear evidence of specialized experience.
Specialized experience is that which is directly related to the position and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, such as directing and managing statistics, analytics or disease prevention programs. Typically, experience of this nature is gained at or above the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.
Current federal employees must be at the GS-14 or equivalent grade level to be considered for this vacancy announcement.
