The University Library of the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Research Services and Resources (RSR) Department of the Richard J. Daley Library. Under the direction of the Head of Research Services and Resources, the Reference and Liaison Librarian will be the Library’s primary point of contact with approximately 50 faculty members and all students in three social sciences departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Liaisons advocate for the needs of their academic unit(s), which includes developing relevant Library collections, designing curriculum-integrated instruction, and supporting faculty research through innovative services. As a member of the RSR department, the successful candidate will also support general reference and instruction programming for first-year student success across disciplines.
This tenure-track appointment includes the expectation that the faculty member will be actively engaged in and significantly contribute to the profession through research/scholarship and service related to professional and scholarly interests. Duties:
Duties as liaison to assigned departments or colleges include:
- Advocate for the research and curricular needs of faculty, students, and staff in assigned academic units
- Design instruction and provide curricular support for targeted courses in each unit
- Conduct one-on-one research consultations
- Develop and manage collections in assigned areas, including data sets
- Promote the library’s initiatives in research data management and scholarly communication
- Participate in outreach to both the UIC campus and the community about the Library’s services, resources and programs
General reference and instruction duties include:
- Research support and information services in person and virtually
- Course-integrated instruction and general workshops
- Development of online instructional materials (e.g. tutorials, research guides, integrating library services into Blackboard)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
- Two years of professional experience in higher education and/or librarianship
- Excellent communication skills and commitment to working cooperatively and collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals
- Ability to vigorously promote Library services and resources in a user-centered setting
- Ability to meet university standards for research, publication and professional service commensurate with tenure.

- Collections development experience
- Instruction experience
