You will join the Academic Liaison section in the University Library working in the Research Support Team, reporting to the Research Support Lead. You will assist the Research Data Manager and play a key role providing technical support to researchers recording or publishing their datasets through the University’s Data Catalogue. Working with the Research Data Manager, you will help establish procedures and standards for the University’s Data Catalogue, and provide training where necessary. You should have a degree (or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience) and the ability to communicate detailed and complex information effectively to a wide range of people. Familiarity with the research data lifecycle, together with knowledge of issues and challenges related to the management of research data, is also essential.
Essential:

- Degree (or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience)
- Evidence of IT training and continuing professional development
- Customer service awareness
- Sound understanding of emerging technology trends and their potential practical applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and reporting skills, together with the ability to provide detailed guidance, coaching, instruction, etc. to develop the knowledge and skills of staff across the University
- Expertise in at least one of the following core areas: Windows Server 2008 2012; Linux (Red Hat Ubuntu); setup and management of Client Server based systems
- Knowledge and experience of metadata standards and awareness of digital preservation issues
- Knowledge of relevant established and emerging IT standards and systems relating to data transfer and interoperability
- Reliable and flexible approach to work, and ability to produce work of a consistently high standard
- Able to work individually and as part of a team, dealing efficiently with challenging situations and aligning day-to-day work with changing and developing priorities
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and enhance systems, and to implement new systems
- Enthusiastic adopter and contributor to emerging standards and practices

- Experience in a similar data management-related role
- Microsoft MCSA
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)

- Understanding of wider/strategic University and HE issues and how they impact on this role
- Awareness of digital preservation issues, concepts and practices, including external requirements and their implications for data preservation and sharing
