Operationalizing Fair Principles With Jupyter Notebooks
In this presentation, we share the STEEP Superfund Research Center’s experience transitioning from spreadsheet-based data analysis in environmental and biomedical research to Jupyter notebooks, and what attendees can learn from it: - We will introduce Jupyter notebooks as an interactive computing environment that integrates narrative and code to support streamlined data processing and visualization, and discuss how they support computational reproducibility and FAIR data practices. - We will show how shared notebook-based workflows evolved through collaboration with trainees and domain experts, and what benefits emerged for transparency, troubleshooting, and standardization. - We will highlight challenges encountered, particularly version management and user on boarding. - We will encourage discussion on computational reproducibility and strategies to make expert knowledge more accessible across research teams.
