Libraries and Librarians Bridging The Gap In Enhancing Digital Literacy and Inclusive Education For Pre-Service Teachers: A Mixed-Methods Study
This mixed-methods study explores the role of libraries and librarians in enhancing digital literacy and inclusive education for pre-service teachers. A systematic review of existing literature examines the current state of knowledge on this topic, while participant observation and qualitative surveys of librarians working with teachers in training provide rich, contextual insights into the ways in which librarians support pre-service teachers' development of digital literacy and inclusive education skills. The study's findings highlight the critical role that librarians play in bridging the gap between pre-service teachers' digital literacy and inclusive education skills and the demands of 21st-century teaching. The study identifies key strategies and best practices that librarians use to support pre-service teachers' development, including collaborative partnerships with teacher educators, targeted training and support, and the provision of inclusive digital resources and tools. The results have implications for the development of library services and programs that support pre-service teachers, as well as for the education of librarians themselves. By highlighting the critical role that librarians play in supporting pre-service teachers' development, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the ways in which libraries and librarians can support the development of educators who are equipped to meet the needs of diverse learners in the 21st century.
