Leveraging The 30 Day Map Challenge As A Pedagogical Tool
Social media challenges are a contemporary and common activity. Among professional, amateur, expert, and hobbyist cartographers a social media challenge that is widely known and practiced is something called the 30 Day Map Challenge. Here, I explore how that challenge can be leveraged as a pedagogical tool for rapid iterative data exploration and visualization. Further, this method champions development of expertise with a wide range of data types, sources, and visualization methods. Examples provided will explore rapidly identifying datasets, determination of standards for visual and cartographic products, and methods for incorporating into longer, iterative workflows. This is a single anecdotal case.
